The Nikon D300 SLR Digital Camera offers outstanding image quality, multi-functional technologies and fast response, with an impressive resolution of 12.3 megapixels, speedy 6 fps frame advance, self-cleaning sensor unit and high definition

3" VGA LCD display, combined with Nikons legendary durability. The Camera also features Nikons exclusive EXPEED Image Processing System that is central to driving the speed and processing power needed for many of the cameras features; such as the 51-point auto focus system with Nikons 3D Focus Tracking feature, and two LiveView shooting modes that allow users to frame a photograph using the cameras high-resolution LCD monitor.

Features:

• Durable and Dependable
The D300 body is built from a durable and lightweight magnesium alloy, and has been designed for a high level of dust and water resistance, while the cameras shutter has been tested for 150,000-release cycles, thereby continuing Nikons long tradition of sturdiness and durability

• 12.3 Megapixel Resolution
The high-resolution 12.3 Megapixel DX format CMOS sensor generates image files of the highest quality that are suitable for almost every type of output.

• Self Cleaning Senor
The D300 incorporates a self-cleaning sensor unit, which vibrates at four different resonance frequencies to remove any loose dust on the surface of the sensors optical low pass filter.

• Fast Performance
The D300 can support continuous shooting up to 6 frames per second (up to 8 frames per second with the optional MB-D10 Multi-power Battery Pack), making it a powerful performer for a wide variety of shooting disciplines, particularly for action sports, wildlife, or news gathering applications. It also provides fast power-up (0.13 seconds), quick responsiveness (45 millisecond shutter lag), and outstanding timer and shutter flexibility to meet the needs of a wide variety of photographic assignments.

• Enhanced Images with EXPEED
The EXPEED image processing system is at the heart of the D300s ability to capture and process high definition image data so quickly. It features 14-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion with 16-bit image processing, both of which contribute to delivering results with Nikons signature look and feel of rich accurate colors, smooth skin gradations and exceptional detail.

• Wide ISO Sensitivity
The camera has a broad ISO range from 200-3200 plus Lo (equivalent to ISO 100) and Hi (equivalent to ISO 6400) sensitivity settings.

• Fast, Accurate 51-point Autofocus with 3D Focus Tracking
The D300 incorporates Nikons Multi-CAM 3500DX auto focus module that features an intelligent array of 15 cross-type sensors and 36 horizontal sensors. The system also features 3D tracking with automatic focus point switching that takes advantage of all 51 AF points as it uses color and light information to accurately track the subject. Altogether, the D300 delivers exacting autofocus precision at blazing speeds.

• Exclusive Scene Recognition System (SRS)
The Nikon Scene Recognition System uses the acclaimed Nikon 1005-pixel RGB color sensor modified to recognize subjects shape and position before the image is captured. This also aids the 51-Point Autofocus system in tracking subjects by their color, while enhancing the accuracy of exposure and white balance metering.

• Active D-Lighting Mode
The Active D-Lighting mode provides remarkable real-time highlight and shadow correction with optimized image contrast, producing broader tone reproduction in both shadows and highlights while applying localized tone control technology to achieve a more pleasing level of contrast across the entire image. And because Active D-Lighting is applied as images are captured, image editing time can be reduced.

• Picture Control Settings
Nikons Picture Control System makes it easy for users of all experience levels to select and apply adjustments to how their pictures are rendered and create optimized settings to suit their individual preferences. The Picture Control System offers four basic setting options - Standard, Neutral, Vivid and Monochrome - that can be directly customized with image parameters, such as sharpening, tone compensation, brightness and saturation. Furthermore, users can store up to nine customized options or export up to 99 to a CF memory card, enabling photographers to share settings among multiple cameras.

• 3.0" Color LCD Display
The 3.0-inch super density (920,000-pixel) color LCD monitor provides a crisp clear view of your images with 170-degree wide-angle viewing and tempered-glass protection - making critical image review possible. The camera also includes an information display on the rear LCD screen that can change color according to the ambient lighting conditions, and an easy-to-view top LCD panel.

• Live View Feature
The D300 includes the Live View system, which presents photographers with a live image on the LCD screen, with two modes suited to either hand held or tripod shooting. The Live View system is particularly useful when shooting in a studio, utilizing remote shooting, or when shooting from challenging angles.

• Comfortable Controls
The controls of the D300 were designed for ease of use with a totally intuitive 8-directional multi-area selector that makes selecting any of the 51-Point autofocus settings simple, and an intuitive menu system that provides fast access to many of the fine controls of the camera.

• A Total Imaging System
The D300 isnt just a camera, but part of the Nikon Total Imaging System, and is compatible with NIKKOR lenses, Speedlights, accessories and software that provide a complete solution for any photographic challenge to help photographers create great images.

• Wireless Networking
The optional Nikon Wireless Transmitter WT-4, not only provides the ability to transmit (push) images to servers and remotely control the camera from afar, but also enables remote browsing of the cameras image thumbnails as well. Furthermore users can set up a network of up to five D300 so thumbnails from all connected cameras can be browsed simultaneously from a remote server and relevant image files pulled, while the photographers continue shooting.

Nikon 25432 D300 12.3 Megapixel DSLR(Camera Body)with Vari-angle color 2.7" LCD monitor Reviews

David Ragland's Review from Ozona, Texas: - December 9, 2008

This is an all-around great camera and I'm very pleased with it. I did my research, knew what to expect, and that's exactly what I got.
Danny Rarangol's Review from Hawthorne, CA: - December 1, 2008

Very easy to use the buttons on this camera, just what I was looking for.
Ember's Review from Palo Alto: - November 2, 2008

Incredible level of customization, image quality, low noise at high ISO levels, 51-points auto-focus, built like a tank. I've enjoyed specially the 51 points auto focus system. Metering is extremely reliable. The viewfinder is full of valuable information, bright and with a 100% cover zone that delivers no surprises while framing. I had also felt that I bought this camera at the exact place I was hoping for. From start to end it was a pleasure to shop here. Thank You.
Jonathon's Review from Albuquerque, NM: - October 30, 2008

I just received this camera a few days ago. Wow! It's such a powerful camera. The photos are very high quality. I have the Sigma 17- 70mm f2.8-4.5 and I am an all around shooter. I couldn't be happier with my choice of camera. I am saving up for the Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR lens next.
Amy L.'s Review from NY: - October 24, 2008

I had the D200 before buying the D300 and it is very similar but stronger...takes great pictures, easy for everyday use.
Sal V.'s Review from NY: - October 24, 2008

Very fine camera, better and much cheaper than the D2.

What does this mean for me?

The terms "grey market" and "parallel import" have the same meaning.

Some of the cameras and camcorders listed on the site are parallel imports.  All Televisions, Appliances and all other items listed on this website comes with a USA Factory Warranty. Most of the products that we sell come with a warranty from the manufacturer or from the manufacturer's licensed importer. However, some of the products we sell have been obtained from sources other than the manufacturer or its licensed importer. These are called "grey market" products.

"Grey market" is not illegal, nor factory refurbished, nor open box merchandise, nor cheaper or inferior to their USA counterparts. In fact, the only differences are that "grey market" products do not come with a manufacturer warranty, may come with a copy of a user manual and cannot receive manufacturer rebates. "Grey market" and USA products are manufactured in the same factories from the same components, to the same specs, by the same workers in the same manufacturer plants. In terms of the item itself (excepting PAL, which is made to work outside of the US) there is no difference at all.

What are the differences as far as a customer is concerned?

There is no real need for concern when discussing "Grey Market" or imported product. The camera comes in English language with the same menu options and all of the same accessories from the manufacturer. The main difference is the item’s warranty coverage, but we will supply the customer with a 3rd Party warranty that will cover the same terms as the manufacturer in the USA. "Grey Market" items cost less than their USA counterparts, and that is why we are able to give a considerable discount on those such items. "Grey market" products do not qualify for manufacturer's rebates.

Why offer "Parallel Import"?

Parallel Import, or grey market items often cost less than comparable USA models. Due to the weak conversion rate of the US Dollar, some items cost much less to purchase outside of the United States. There are also items we sell that are not otherwise available in the USA through normal distribution channels.

PAL (Phase Alternate Line) Video Equipment

Video equipment sold in the US, Canada, Mexico and Japan is designed to record and playback video images at 525 lines-per-frame @ 60 frames-per-second. This is commonly known as an NTSC format (National Television Standards Committee).

We also sell video equipment that is set to record and playback video using the European broadcast standard (PAL) of 625 lines-per-frame @ 50 frames-per-second.

PAL and NTSC are not interchangeable recording formats. If you are planning on using your video equipment in the United States, you must purchase an NTSC model.
Untitled Document

When purchasing a digital camera, you must decide on the type of camera that is suitable for how you are using it, the life of the battery, how much memory is required, which type of lenses are needed, and etc. This guide will assist you in buying a digital camera and the necessary accessories.

Types of Cameras:

There are many different types of cameras.  Depending on how often and for what purpose you are using the camera, there is a camera out there for all users.

Starter Cameras:
For users who are looking to start digital photography, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, this is the type of camera for you. A decent point-and-shoot camera should be suitable for 4”x6” photo prints.

Amateur Cameras:
For users that are knowledgeable about digital photography or want a high-quality camera to learn with, this category is best for you. These cameras offer ease of use with very high specification features, but not a large range of controls that you can get from professional cameras. Typically, you can make up to 11”x17” photo prints with these cameras.

Professional Cameras:
These cameras are intended for professionals to use. The lower-end professional cameras have a similar resolution to some high-end amateur cameras. The main difference is that, they have more elaborate setting control, better lenses, and better flash options. Most of the time, you can use lenses from your older SLR (Single Lens Reflex) film cameras. The resolution on these cameras could exceed 21 megapixels (21 million pixels). This type of camera is intended to produce very high quality prints for newspapers, magazines, and books, or for users who like to have control over how their pictures will look.

Power Conservation Tips:

Turn off the LCD:
When you are not using it, turn the LCD off. If you are low on power and want to make some more pictures, turn the LCD off and use the viewfinder instead. Doing so will increase the battery life of the camera, as LCD screens will eat up a lot of power.

Stop the Zoom:
Some cameras automatically release the lens when you turn the camera on. Unfortunately, it drains power significantly. To prevent this from happening you can change the settings to the sleep mode.

Turn off the Flash:
If you think the lighting is adequate for pictures, turn off the flash. Flashes will consume a large amount of energy, which is wasted if not in use.

Plug it in:
Some cameras have power adapter which allows you to plug in your camera to a wall socket.  This will allow you to save your battery power when you are using the camera near a power socket.

Accessories to boost your Digital Experience:

Batteries:
Batteries are an important resource to digital cameras because if there is no power left, you can miss a special moment. If your camera uses disposable alkaline batteries, you should get a set of rechargeable batteries, thus saving you a lot of money in the long run, compared to purchasing new disposable batteries each time. For cameras that use Lithium Ion, it is suggested to purchase a backup battery for instances when you will be away from home for a period longer than 2 hours.

Memory Cards:
Memory card are equivalent to film in digital cameras. Each type of camera will use a different type of card, so make sure to check which card is compatible with your camera. Secure Digital (SD) is currently the most popular because it has become relatively cheap. Capacities of up to 16GB are currently available. Remember, you can never have too much memory, so invest in a larger capacity memory card when you purchase your digital camera. Here is a chart to help you make a decision on the memory card size right for yourself.

Tripods/Monopods:
If you have problems taking sharp, clear images, it could be because your hands were shaking. In order to solve the problem, you can get a tripod or monopod. It is important to keep the cameras steady if you want perfect pictures. A tripod is also important when you want to tweak the settings and take long exposure shots.

Card Readers:
Card readers are essential for any serious digital photographer. Instead of transferring photos directly from the camera, you can use a card reader to transfer them from your memory card straight to your computer. Doing so will conserve the camera’s batteries when transferring pictures.

Cases and Bags:
While digital cameras may be pricey, they can still break if dropped, so be sure to you protect your investment with either a case or bag. Cases make it safer and easier to carry. Cases can also protect your camera from sand, dust, dirt, and water. They are available in all types of sizes and styles. You can even purchase an Underwater Housing Case, allowing you to use your digital camera in water. These cases are more expensive and are only designed for some models. The cases usually come with cameras straps to put the camera around your neck or wrist. This provides an extra layer of protection for your camera, by preventing it from falling to the ground.

Lenses and Flash:
The quality of your photos depends on the quality of your lens. Flashes can help improve the brightness of your pictures. On most cameras, the lenses are built onto the camera, so you don’t have any upgradeability of the lens. But, if you own an SLR camera, you can replace the lens with a higher quality one, with better zoom or a different focal length. Flashes assist you when you are taking photos in low light settings. Most digital cameras have an internal flash that works fine for normal use, but you might want more light for the best possible results.

Important Camera Features:

Resolution:
A photograph is measured in the number of pixels in the picture. A pixel is a tiny dot of color. In digital photography, quality of the photo is  megapixels. One-megapixel is the same as one million pixels. Nowadays, most cameras have more than 6 Megapixels, which is more than sufficient for a beginner’s camera.

Zoom:
Zoom is an important factor because it helps you get closer to the subject. There are two types of zoom available in digital cameras, digital and optical zoom. Digital zoom is a way of magnifying the picture by processing techniques. Unfortunately, digital zoom lowers the quality of the image a little. Optical zoom is where the magnification is done by using the camera’s lens. It would be ideal to use the Optical zoom over digital zoom because of the quality difference.
